So who are we?
I am a native English speaker with near-native level Spanish fluency. My husband is a native Spanish-speaker from Spain. We live in the United States with our two children, ages 4 1/2 and 2 and speak (almost!) exclusively Spanish in our home.

How did this website come about?
I am in a Master's degree program in technical communications and created this website for a course dealing with online design. But I quickly discovered that I was on to something important.

I created a survey with questions for other bilingual families and shared it with a few families I knew. They shared it with other friends raising bilingual children, and what started with five survey responses quickly grew to over 30. What amazed me was how willing — and actually anxious — families of all language and cultural backgrounds were to share their stories, both their successes and their frustrations.

Most admitted that they had never shared their stories with other bilingual families before, or that no one had ever asked them what it was like to raise bilingual children. They wondered if others shared their challenges and if so, how they handled them.

Parents' enthusiasm and response to this website has been tremendous. Thousands of families have visited the site and many have shared their experiences. We have learned a great deal from other families' stories and hope you will, too.
